Chen Fu Ji

Appetiser (some fish strips) - 8/10

The following looks like some really posh dish you see on tv huh? The background of Suntec Shopping Centre is a giveaway. :P

Chen Fu Ji Fried Rice (8/10)

The famous expensive fried rice that created quite a stir a decade or so ago. According to their website, there is 'No hint of oil' in their fried rice. Wow, if this is true, I wonder how did they do that?

I find the fried rice good, but it's not something that I will be hooked to. My hub likes it very much - Must be the expensive crab meat on top, which ironically, I prefer to do without. :P

Roast Duck (8/10)

This is surprisingly good. :)

Barley Drink (9/10)

Must try!

We were the only customers back then and it was dinner time! There were so many staff idling around (not that they want to). I wonder how are they going to survive at this rate...

Ichiban Boshi

We have been to Ichiban Boshi for quite a number of times before. This post is specially dedicated to a very efficient and friendly staff at Suntec Outlet - Mary.

Thanks to her, our experience at Ichiban was even better than before. Just to cite one of the few things she did that night.

1) She was very prompt and efficient, to the extent that before we finished ordering our food, my favourite Chawanmushi arrived at my table - piping hot. Yes, it's that fast! She asked her colleague to bring it out while we were recollecting the food that we wanted to order. :P

2) She came to our table frequently to check if all our orders are here and rushed the kitchen staff even though we did not ask her to do so!

3) She helped me pick up a card that I dropped when she saw that I was in an awkward position to get it.

Overall food rating - 8/10

Just a few photos to share.

Crystal Jade Kitchen

I don't know about you, but I really loathe walking that long stretch in Citilink from City Hall to Suntec City and Marina Square. It's ok if I have company, but if I am not and was rushed, I can get a bit cranky... :P

That's what happened that day. My hub was way too early for our appointment and I had to double up so that he didn't have to wait long.

Shark's fins (3/10)

To make things worse, I didn't like the first dish that came up - 'shark's fins', which my hub ordered primary because it was on a 50% promotion. >_<" I took only 3 spoonfuls of it and my hub finished the rest of it, claiming that 'it's nice wat'. I think he was trying to justify his implusive purchase. :P

Seasons Reasons

Autumn Passion (9/10)

All the goodness in one jar! :)

Pasta Goreng? (8/10)

I thought that was a nice try to 'goreng' pasta. A tad dry though.

Ichiban Boshi

Chawanmushi (10/10) - Must Try

Silky smooth! Best I ever tasted. I like it so much that I ordered another immediately after I finished the first!

Potato Croquette (8/10)

Can't remember the dish name
but I do remember that my hubby didn't like it. (2/10)

Ice Cream (8/10)

Kenny Rogers

So near, yet so far.

That was what I felt about House of Sudanese when I entered Kenny Rogers, which is just next to it.

My hub didn't get to have his Kenny Rogers for years... and yes, because I didn't want to. :P I've never liked the food there. I had my chance at Sudanese, so I guess it's only fair that he had his.

It was a complete different feel after the renovation. The last time we were there, it was still a dimly lit restaurant, with tables so near to each other, one can barely move around. And now...

Spacious. Brightly-lit. Clean cut. I prefer the current setting.

Chicken Caesar Pita (5/10)

Chicken was very dry and bland.

Italian green beans (6/10)

Potato Salad (7/10)

1/2 chicken (6/10)

I find the chicken dry and bland too.

Whipped potato (3/10)

I thought whipped potato can never go wrong. This whipped potato proved me wrong. It was totally tasteless.

Cheese Macaroni (8/10)

My hub's favourite. He likes cheesy stuff (pun intended). This dish was not bad, but it was so filling that I got sick of it after a few spoons.

Chicken Clear Soup (9/10)

I must give credit to the soup. It's delicious, with strands of chicken, a good mix of celery and a few unknown spices. I should have ordered just two bowls of this and probably a side.

Of so many items and main courses offered, to think the soup was actually the only thing that I liked in this restaurant. :P

See that BIG crowd at the bridge? They were walking at 1 step per 2 seconds.

Oh yes. I was at the IT show AGAIN. -_-"

House of Sundanese

The whole world was there. Or so it seemed.

First day of IT Show and it was already that packed. I can't imagine what it would be like for the coming weekend.

I was really disappointed that I didn't get what I wanted. :( So I shall put a stop to anything relating to the IT show from here. *zip*

If it is of much consolation, my hub actually suggested dining at an Indonesian Restaurant. When was the last time I had indonesian food? Years ago! Throughout these years, I did suggest having that but was rejected each time. :(

My first visit to an Indonesian resturant was more than 10 years back at Sanur. I took a liking for the yellow rice, curry chicken and soto ayam.

The thought of having indonesian food once again really perked me up! Yay!

Emping (6/10)

It was rather tasteless, especially when I didn't dab into the chilli sauce. I guess the sauce was good because before I could take a photo of it, this was all that was left. :P

Tasteless as it was, I kept helping myself to the crackers one after another. Must be the hunger.

I know that such snacks are not complimentary, but I was shocked to find out that it cost a good $2.80! That's rather expensive as compared to the vegetable dish of only $5?

Soto Ayam (10/10)

How I miss my soto ayam! I can still remember the taste of the chicken broth till today. Before I even opened my mouth to order this, the waiter beat me to it. "No more soto ayam"

*thunder and lightning*

There was a long pause while I frowned to accept this fact. It was really disturbing. The rating's for the soto ayam I had years back.

We proceed to order the set for 2, which includes the following.

Ayam Bumbu (9/10)

This is the type of curry I like most! Not too thick, and of course, not too diluted or watery, with a good mix of fragrant spices. Very mild in terms of spiciness. Sedap!

Grilled Seabass (8/10)

Don't be deceived by the looks of this fish. Although it looked as if it was dished out (charred) from an overheated wok by an inexperienced housewife, its taste is far from that. Both of us agree that it reminds us of satay, just that this is fish flesh we are talking about.

Kangkong Cha (10/10)

The BEST kangkong I've ever ever had. I really have the urge to try cooking this dish someday. Till then, I hope I can come back more often to eat this. Boy, I am already craving for it now...

Buffet dessert

Banana fritters and Mango ice cream (7/10)

This mini banana fritter really met the mark of what I deem as a good one. Sweet on the inside, crispy on the outside. Definitely much better than that of Bangkok Jam. The bite-sized portion was also an added bonus.

The only ice cream available was mango. Not our flavour.

Pineapple

Hub had his favourite pineapple. Hmm.. pardon my ignorance. I didn't know that pineapple goes well with sauce and chilli seeds?? I still find the combination weird.

They were some other desserts such as papaya, watermelon, kueh, agar agar.

That's about it for the set meal.

I ordered a drink because it sounded quite special.

Lime and Barley mix (7/10)

I can only say that this is a subdued version of a typical lime juice, which I sometimes find too sourish to finish. Adding the barley to the lime drink did work for me.

What a delectable, satisfying, lip-smacking meal! :)

Muthu's Curry

I was instantly reminded of the that irritated but funny indian guy in this commercial when I passed by the reception area. kekeke :P

Bryani (6/10)

The rice was quite tasteless on its own and a tad too dry. I am sure you can tell from the photo.

Fish Head Curry (7/10)
The famous Fish Head Curry - Singapore Best Local Dish Award.

I was prepared to do a long 'hmmmm' and go gaga over this dish, just like everyone else. But I didn't. For it was just an okay dish for me. What's with the award and good reviews? *shrugs* So I guess it's a matter of preferences again, huh?

Mixed Vegetables (9/10)

Strangely, their mixed vege was (so much) better. I find myself digging into this dish more than the bigger pot of fish head curry.

Crackers (8/10)

In fact... I enjoyed the crackers more than the fish head curry itself. >_<

Service
We really couldn't make out what the waiter (with his strong indian accent) was trying to tell us. When we asked him to repeat, he did so with much impatience.

Side track a bit: I subconsciously tilted my head to the right and back (just like a typical indian) when he got my order correct. I find that action of mine pretty amusing... kekeke

It was another who attended to us during billing time. He was much more friendly, humble and helpful. He patiently answered our queries pertaining to the menu even though we were done with our food and bills. Now, that is commendable service.
