For some reason, we always ended up in Secret Receipe after my gown-fitting.

About the restaurant.

Don't you love the way they generously splash the sauce on your meat? :)

Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant

I've got this 30% discount voucher for Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant and I just have to use it, somehow. *women and their discounts* :P

Type
Thai

Quality

Minced chicken stuffed omelette (8/10)

Prawn Tom Yam Soup (9/10)

It tasted so authentic, I was instantly reminded of that bowl of fantastic Tom Yam Soup I had back in Phuket. :)~~~

Thai Style Fried Rice/Crabmeat (10/10)

I tell ya, I have never eaten such tasty fried rice before. Even Chen Fu Ji's fried rice is not his match. The rice was soft and not oily. Flavourful yet not overwhelming. I noticed that fried rice cooked with crabmeat just taste exceptionally good. Coincidental? Hmm... Who cares! :)

Thai Kailan with Shitake (8/10)

All these dishes are enough to keep me coming back, not to mention that there are so many yummy dishes on the menu that I have not tried! If I am a rich tai tai, I will make sure that I patronise this restaurant at least thrice a week. No, no, correction. If I am a rich tai tai, I will hire the chef to teach me how to cook! Ok, dream on.

Although my hub had no complaints about the food, he felt that I have overrated the dishes. He insisted that my hunger caused me to make a skewed judgement of the food quality. He is one annoying critic. >_<

Fish & Co 2

It's JN's birthday this saturday, so I decided to jio her out for a dinner at Fish & Co.

She already had something heavy lunch with her colleagues (who also chose to celebrate with her today) so she wanted to go for something light for her dinner.

I was laughing frantically (sorry, JN. It's really funny lor) when her dish arrived. It was such a biiigg portion! It just doesn't fit her expectations... and mine too. :P

I didn't want to take a photo but decided to, just for memory's sake. hehs! Look how helpless J (in blue) was, looking at the swordfish collar she was served, with her hands by her side? kekeke okies, I made that up. I think she was trying to stay out of the photo I am taking. Hee...

The fish doesn't look appetising to me too. I kept asking her to order another one, but she felt so obliged to finish up this plate. Oh ya, It was during this visit to Fish & Co that I realised I have been shortchanged! They forgot to serve fries with my Sweet and Sour Fish back in AMK. Hmph!!

Anyway, I was really a blur sotong that day. I asked her out for a workout at Cali after dinner and it turned out that we cannot enter because this is a 'Jacky Chan' Cali and not the normal Cali in Orchard and Raffles. -_-".

It was kinda a blessing in disguise, though, because this two chatty women are not done with their conversation after dinner yet. So it was yakkety yakkety yak over a plate of banana split all the way till 10 plus! :P

Happy birthday, JN! :)

Mini Steamboat Delight

It has been our favourite ever since we tried it many years ago. Once in a while, whenever we have cravings for steamboat, we will head down to Parkway Parade. Never mind the distance, never mind the time. Till today, we have yet find another that serves such a fantastic soup base.

Type
Chinese

Quality

Chicken / Tom Yam soup base (10/10)

We always like to have the 'double sided' version. We will try both soup bases, but usually I will use the chicken soup more often, while my hub, the tom yam. It's very addictive. One sip of the soup and you can't stop.

They sell the food on a per plate basis. Mostly around the range of S$2. Our usual orders are Tau Pok (a must!), Thin slices of pork (a must too!), Fish dumplings, Fishballs, Meatballs.

It's not in the photo, but the rice is fantastic. It not the normal white rice, but those chicken flavoured rice. I can eat the rice on its own, without any dishes to go along. No kidding. I hardly come across this kind of rice anymore. The last time I had rice of this flavour and texture is in Golden Mile Basement. But that was more than 20 years back? I was only 6 or 7. I can still remember that I ate 3 big bowls of rice over steamboat back then. Getting nostalgic...

Everything in action... 10/10!

One of the few Katsu Don I enjoy. :)

There were so much food on this tray. I can only finish up the main course, soup and fruits. >_<

Quite a variety eh? My hub is very 'daring' when it comes to food tasting.

Curry Favour

We felt relieved, happy and a lil' excited as the 5-figure problem that has been causing so much tension is finally solved. *phew* It was really a close shave indeed. This is when I really feel that '船到桥头自然直'

We decided to have a good dinner. We took a 5 minute walk to Curry Favour. I love the name, really. Though in real life, this is an act I despise. :P

It was first introduced by my brother, who was full of praises for this restaurant near his workplace. I took his 'must-try' recommendation the last time I came and wasn't too impressed. The main courses that we ordered this time round were certainly better.

Type
Japanese

Quality

Cheese Katsu (Pork Filet) Curry (9/10)

My hub ordered this.

I notice he likes cheese quite a bit. Given a choice, he would certainly pick food with cheese than without. He loves to order nachos with cheese whenever we go for movies. I wonder if there is any correlation between his liking for cheese and the 'cheesy' movies he watches. :P

Hire (Pork Filet) Katsu Curry (9/10)

I shouldn't have attempted to pronounce the name when I ordered this dish. You've guessed it. I pronounced it as 'higher' and was immediately corrected by the waitress as 'Heeray'. So maloo. >_<

The sauce doesn't taste as thick as it looks, which is good. Not too spicy even for someone like me. The pork taste pretty much the same as the cheese katsu curry, just that it comes without the cheese. Overall a very satisfying meal.

$45+ for two plates of 'pork and rice'... kinda expensive. The taste somehow make up for it.

Secret Receipe

Type
Western

Quality
Chicken Meatball Sphagetti (7/10)

I find it pretty ordinary. The meatballs were not bad, but the spagetti sauce was watery and not thick enough. Strange enough, my ever-so-fussy hub was full of praises for the meatballs in this dish. He said it was something like the meatballs he has tasted during his primary school days... Why was I reminded of Ego and his ratatouille meal? kekeke

Chicken Cordon Bleu (7/10)

I had a bite. Nice, but can be quite fattening with the cheese and what nots.

Service

They were very slow in responding to our cues. We had to wave frantically to get their attention. If not because of the fact that I am lazy to search for another restaurant, I could have agreed to leave the restuarant.

Soba So Good

There were no queues forming outside today, so we thought it would be a good time to satisfy our curiosity for the frequent long queues at this restaurant.

We entered the restaurant with pretty high expectations, but were pretty disappointed with the so-so food we were served.

Type
Japanese

Quality
6/10

It was plain and towards the blander side.

6/10

Salmon sashimi (8/10) - According to my hub

Green Tea Ice Cream (9/10)

Green Tea Ice Cream saves the day! One scoop's all I have, though. I took quite some time to slowly savour this and I enjoyed every spoonful I took! :P It was not too sweet, not too creamy and the green tea flavour was not too overwhelming. Perfect dessert.

Service

We left the restaurant with lots of question marks on why so many queued up to get in during peak hours. After this visit, we are even more certain that we will not join the crowd in the queue.

Soba so good? Soba so-so.

Petit Provence

As I entered the shop, I was greeted by this sign.

"Wassants sold out"

I glanced at the time on my phone. Geez... it's only 1pm? I presume that Wassants is their signature pastry, but even to sell anything out at this early hour only goes to show how popular this shop is!

I walked around for quite some time, trying to spot the pastries that were introduced in the "Fatty superman" show on Channel 8 a few weeks ago. Not any that I could recall. Finally, I decided to choose this pastry.

Quality
"Milk" Pastry (8/10)

I can't remember the name, but there was a 'milk' in it. Boy, it was good. The crust is as crispy as it seems and the milk and egg filling is soft and sweet. Quite simliar to the fillings of an egg tart.

Nasi Lemak @ Holland Village

Everybody's heard about the Nasi Lemak in Holland Village. Or at least, through the drama series 'Holland Village' a few years back?

I hardly go to Holland Village. So when I went there, I knew I must have that famous Nasi Lemak for lunch.

Type

Quality
Nasi Lemak (9/10)

Just the following photo does it huh?

I wanted to stop at 3 dishes, but just couldn't help to order one more. The good thing about this stall is that it allows you to choose more peanuts because the peanuts and ikan bilis were kept separate.

All the dishes were superb, but what outshined them was actually the coconut rice! I seldom came across such soft, fragrant coconut rice and I was full of smiles for each bite I took.

Service

Pretty prompt

Ambience
Very kopitiam feel. I thought that it would be very crowded and left with no seats, but nah, I managed to get myself seated comfortably without anybody sitting beside.
