Ministry of Food (MOF)

I first heard about MOF from Ice. The first thing that came to my mind then was 'Ministry of Finance'? :P Soon after, I read and heard about it so often that I knew it's time for me to pay it a visit.

Green Tea (9/10)

Chawanmushi (9/10)

Comparable to that of Ichiban's!

Egg Handroll (8/10)

Chicken Karaage (8/10)

Some Beef set

Green Tea Sundae (9/10)

Love the waffle, the sundae, the green tea ice cream and the cereals!

Kanten Jelly

From the note that comes with the sundae.

These series contain Japanese Kanten Jelly at the bottom of the dessert. Kanten Jelly is amde from the room part of plant and is rich in fibre. Thus in Japan, it is believed to have slimming effect and is very healthy.

While Kanten Jelly is totally unsweetened & tasteless, native Japanese pour the sauce (either honey/black or white sauce) over the Kanten Jelly generously before eating. MOF Black Sauce for our Kanten jelly series ia made from Black Purnes & Black Dates. Both fruits aid digestion.

I gobbled up a few because it is believed to have slimming effect... Nah! Don't think it helps in a one-time affair. hehz!

We were pretty pleased with the food. Our conversation as follows.

"How's your beef set?"
"It's not bad!"

"My chawanmushi is good too!"
"You are right!"

"I like the chicken karaage"
"The sundae is fantastic!"

"The green tea also taste better than those I have drank before"
"Absolutely agree!"

"Even the waitresses here are also very pretty"
"..." >_<' LOL

Service
I love the speed. From the queuing, to the ordering, to the serving of food, to the billing, everything was done in a jiffy. All in all, we spent only about half an hour from the point we queue to the point we leave the place! Based on the turnover rate, MOF must have earned a lot!

Tambuah Mas

How I love the food in Tambuah Mas!

I haven't been eating well for the past one week, but the food at Tambuah Mas really helped to pick up my appetite! :D

Snacks (8/10)
A mixture of our favourites - Keropok and peanuts!

Ayam Korma (10/10)
The chicken was tender and was easily 'cleaned' off from the bone. The gravy was so good, we actually drank it straight from the bowl instead of pouring it over the rice. Sedaaaaap! :P

Nasi Kuning (8/10)

Ahh... I can still remember the aroma that lingered in my mouth with each bite I took. So good you can even eat it on its own. :P

Tahu Telor (7/10)

It was piping hot! :) Only the tofu coated with the sauce were nice though. The rest were a lil bit bland.

Kangkong Belachan (9/10)

The spiciness in this dish was shiok! And this is coming from someone who doesn't take chilli/belachan or the likes frequently. :)

Service
I thought it was nice of the lady to bring us a glass of cold water after we had finished our lime juice. :)

Ichiban Boshi

Chawanmushi (10/10) - Must Try

Silky smooth! Best I ever tasted. I like it so much that I ordered another immediately after I finished the first!

Potato Croquette (8/10)

Can't remember the dish name
but I do remember that my hubby didn't like it. (2/10)

Ice Cream (8/10)

Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits

Hubby brought me to T3 today. Spacious. I like the smart design of having aluminium louvres to reflect sunlight into the building... That's about it. :P

I can hardly find clusters of people around, like I always would in the other two terminals... until I went to the Basement 2... coz that's where all the food are... :)~~~

I am not a big fan of Popeye's cartoon, but I thought I should give this a try. It is not everyday that I visit Changi Airport, ya know? ;P

Chicken Combo (9/10)

Yvonne, I seriously think you should go down and have another go! The chicken is so tender, juicy and yummy! :) I certainly prefer that to KFC's! :P

The biscuit was good at first sight bite, but too bland for my taste buds after subsequent bites. It tasted so much better after spreading the jam. A typical example of something that cannot be eaten on its own. :P Why am I thinking of my sausage biscuit again? >_<

Fries (9/10)
Whipped potato (10/10)

The fries were crispy and moderately spiced. It resembled Mac's curly fries except that it wasn't curled. Nice!

The whipped potato were exceptional, I tell ya! It's a must try! KFC's whipped potato all of a sudden seemed so starchy and inferior. :P

Chicken Fillet (7/10)

There must be a reason why nine out of ten people in the restuarant ordered the chicken combo. I happened to be the 10th! It's really a mistake on my part. W
hy didn't I open my eyes big big to observe what others had before ordering? Oh ok. Actually it wasn't that bad... as long as I don't compare. :P

Service
very sloow service. My hub queued for a good 20+ minutes.

Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee

Oops! I... did it again.

I told myself to stay away from these unhealthy food. No laksa for the week. No curry to go with mixed rice, bee hoon or roti prata. Not a drop. No, no, no!

I had them all this week.

I just couldn't resist it. I surrendered to the aroma. To the vibrant and appetite whetting colours. To the...

I mean, just look at this.

Curry Chicken Bee Hoon (9/10)

I am sure you can understand why I broke the rules?

Say! Why are food created such that good taste and nutrition doesn't work hand in hand? Most of the time, it's an either-or. >_<"

In any case, the 'damage' was done. I (consciously) walked up to the stall and ordered what I wasn't supposed to.

No regrets though. It was a real steal.

The chicken was tender, the curry was superb. I would say the gravy tasted more like laksa to me, but this is exactly why I like it so much. Not so thick, that is. :P

This stall was not only featured in Makansutra and some newspapers but also won some food award for 07/08. Although all these awards are actually quite common nowadays, not all the stalls with newspaper cuttings or awards live up to their name. Ah Heng did.

House of Sundanese

The whole world was there. Or so it seemed.

First day of IT Show and it was already that packed. I can't imagine what it would be like for the coming weekend.

I was really disappointed that I didn't get what I wanted. :( So I shall put a stop to anything relating to the IT show from here. *zip*

If it is of much consolation, my hub actually suggested dining at an Indonesian Restaurant. When was the last time I had indonesian food? Years ago! Throughout these years, I did suggest having that but was rejected each time. :(

My first visit to an Indonesian resturant was more than 10 years back at Sanur. I took a liking for the yellow rice, curry chicken and soto ayam.

The thought of having indonesian food once again really perked me up! Yay!

Emping (6/10)

It was rather tasteless, especially when I didn't dab into the chilli sauce. I guess the sauce was good because before I could take a photo of it, this was all that was left. :P

Tasteless as it was, I kept helping myself to the crackers one after another. Must be the hunger.

I know that such snacks are not complimentary, but I was shocked to find out that it cost a good $2.80! That's rather expensive as compared to the vegetable dish of only $5?

Soto Ayam (10/10)

How I miss my soto ayam! I can still remember the taste of the chicken broth till today. Before I even opened my mouth to order this, the waiter beat me to it. "No more soto ayam"

*thunder and lightning*

There was a long pause while I frowned to accept this fact. It was really disturbing. The rating's for the soto ayam I had years back.

We proceed to order the set for 2, which includes the following.

Ayam Bumbu (9/10)

This is the type of curry I like most! Not too thick, and of course, not too diluted or watery, with a good mix of fragrant spices. Very mild in terms of spiciness. Sedap!

Grilled Seabass (8/10)

Don't be deceived by the looks of this fish. Although it looked as if it was dished out (charred) from an overheated wok by an inexperienced housewife, its taste is far from that. Both of us agree that it reminds us of satay, just that this is fish flesh we are talking about.

Kangkong Cha (10/10)

The BEST kangkong I've ever ever had. I really have the urge to try cooking this dish someday. Till then, I hope I can come back more often to eat this. Boy, I am already craving for it now...

Buffet dessert

Banana fritters and Mango ice cream (7/10)

This mini banana fritter really met the mark of what I deem as a good one. Sweet on the inside, crispy on the outside. Definitely much better than that of Bangkok Jam. The bite-sized portion was also an added bonus.

The only ice cream available was mango. Not our flavour.

Pineapple

Hub had his favourite pineapple. Hmm.. pardon my ignorance. I didn't know that pineapple goes well with sauce and chilli seeds?? I still find the combination weird.

They were some other desserts such as papaya, watermelon, kueh, agar agar.

That's about it for the set meal.

I ordered a drink because it sounded quite special.

Lime and Barley mix (7/10)

I can only say that this is a subdued version of a typical lime juice, which I sometimes find too sourish to finish. Adding the barley to the lime drink did work for me.

What a delectable, satisfying, lip-smacking meal! :)

Spizza

When we reached the place, I noticed that all the tables in the restaurant were booked except for two. My hub then told me that he has made the reservation 1 month ago and he was the first (of coz lah) on the reservation list. He even specifically requested for a particular table that is away from the crowd and yet, not so near the washrooms. I was at a loss for words. Since when did my hub become so thoughtful and meticulous?

So why did he choose this place? "The Ambience", he said. Oh alright... it's indeed quite nice.

I like the way they done up the place with red flowers on every table. I wonder if that is the same throughout the year. :P

Polmelmo (6/10) - not sure if I have gotten the correct spelling

My hub was full of praises for this grapefruit drink, so I thought I should give it a try. It was really nice for the first few sips. For some reason, it became so bitter after some time, that I just have to stop taking it. :P

Nabucco (9/10)
Cream Of Wild Mushrooms Soup And Bread Croutons

This soup is good! What's more, it was still piping hot when it came to us, unlike soups in other places which are usually served lukewarm. It really works for someone who likes hot food and I happen to be one. :)

Caesar Salad (10/10)
Romaine Salad, Bread Croutons, Caesar Dressing, Grilled Chicken Breast

How good can a salad get? THIS good! I like everything in this salad. The vegetables, the chicken, the sauce, the croutons... *Ding dong Ding dong* :D

Vittoria (8/10)

The pizzas are supposed to be named from A-Z.

Why did they give up at W, when they are almost at the finish line? *shrugs*

This is something different from the usual pizza we ate. The crust was as thin as a biscuit, I didn't feel full after eating 2 pieces (the case when I took pizzas from pizza hut/canadian or the likes). In fact, I managed to finish all the 5 pieces, half the size of a medium pizza, all by myself! All pizzas should have crust the same thickness as this! Yums!

Strangely, my hub (who takes sambal chilli, etc) finds it quite spicy and I (someone who doesn't take chilli) finds the spiciness quite acceptable. *ponders*
Traviata (7/10)
Amaretto Frozen Parfait With Chocolate Tartufo

The waiter was full of compliments for this dessert and he ended off his description with a 'Very nice!', we can't help but to go with his recommendation. It's not too bad, but not that nice either.

Spizza. A rather stylo name. But why 'for friends'?

It could be a self-fulfilling prophecy. There were quite a few big groups of friends in the restaurant on our way out. :P

After which, we headed to a shopping centre, where we played a few games of wrestling with XBox360. We had a good laugh, especially when I kept pressing the wrong button to 'pose' instead of punch/kick. I was badly 'bashed-up' by my hub. >_<

What a fun way to spend this day. :D

Greenwood Fish Market & Bistro

I have heard / read all the good comments about Greenwood Fish & Chips. Without a car, I knew that It's hard to convince my hubby (or even myself) to go to this secluded restaurant in Bukit Timah with me. So I exchanged my credit card points for a S$20 voucher at this place. :P So in a way, we were 'compelled' to use this voucher before it expires in February. >_<

We were greeted by fresh fishes (reminds me of the layout in Perth F&C restaurants) before entering the dining area.

We were asked for the type of fish (Sole filet, Barranmundi ,Snapper, etc.) we preferred and the way it is going to be cooked (Pan-seared / Fish & Chips style, etc). We chose Barramundi, Fish & Chips style (which we came here for) and the crumbed version over the battered one.

Bread (7/10)

Looks like a slice of cake to me. :P

Broccoli Soup (8/10)

The colour of the soup appears nothing like a Broccoli Soup (I was expecting something more greenish... :P) Nevertheless, it was rich, creamy and nice.

Fish & Chips - Barramundi, Crumbed (10/10)

Glenn Ong once commented that the best fish & chips (in his opinion) in Singapore is at Greenwood.

I have to agree with him on this one.

There was really nothing to pick on about this dish. The vegetables were nice and fresh. The fries was hot and crispy and it didn't turn soggy even after some time. We wondered how they managed to do that.

The fish. It was crispy on the outside (something that most of us have taken for granted). I guess the difference was that the fish meat remained moist and tender after all the deep frying. Check this out.

I daresay (IMO) that it's even better than the fish & chips in Cicerellos, which is famed to be the best in Perth!
