NUS Claypot Rice

I was at NUS today and although it wasn't meal time, I couldn't resist walking down to the science canteen (not too sure what it is called now) to order claypot rice. Beancurd claypot, to be precise. Just looking at it makes me smile.



I wanted so much to tell Auntie that I came to this canteen JUST for her claypot, but was afraid that it was too much info. :P

While waiting for the food to be heated up, I realised that they have won quite a number of awards and they were actually the winner for that Felicia Chin school canteen show! I was so happy to see that because I really think they deserve it.

Auntie accidentally hurt herself when she brushed her fingers against the extremely hot claypot. That's when she started to share with me how she refused to let her customers change the orientation of the claypot for their own good, but some of them refused to listen. She even showed me all the red marks on her hand resulting from the burns in her daily course of her work. :(( So guys, if you are having claypot at NUS science canteen, just be nice to Auntie. She may look fierce, but she's a nice lady.

Food wise, I still prefer the taste few years back (wonder what's missing), but there's still a sense of happiness after I have finished the food. :)

Getting nolstagic, perhaps. :P

Can you believe my hub wanted to try the food here (even though we have had our meal at Mr Chicken Rice), just because it 'uses 100% olive oil'?

"It's healthier" he said.

*face palm* relatively speaking, maybe yes. But Fried Food? Healthy?

Vegeterian Rice (9/10)

And I really mean it when I say it is 'hidden' because unlike all other main courses, you can't even see the staff preparing it when you order. The staff had to go all the way to the 'back' of the kitchen to get it.

Rice is fragrant and well-executed. A very simple but satisfying meal! :)

Don't remind me of the queue and waiting time, though. >_<'

If not for Yvonne, I wouldn't know that Rajah Inn serves Porridge Buffet during lunch time!

The food is decent, nothing short of those you find in food courts/kopitiam. For the variety and the price of $6.90 per pax, I'd say it's value for money!

I have hardly taken leave without a purpose for it. No thanks to my company, I was 'forced' to take one on this day. No other family members or friends I know is in a company with such policy, so I was alone on this day.

I knew I had to meet someone. JN came to my mind straightaway at 12noon sharp (so zhun!). I sms-ed her immediately and to my delight, she's available!

Being her 'territory', JN decided to bring me to the ever-so-famous Amoy Street to have our lunch. There were queues everywhere and the place was so warm, we felt as if we were having sauna in an open area! >_<" It was after rounds of walking (15 minutes?) that we finally found a table in which we used our tissue to 'chop' the seats.

We also came to a consensus to queue for a wanton noodle stall. It was a very long wait - at least 20 minutes? I pity those pple who spent most of their lunch time searching for seats and queueing up!

It was then I started to feel how lucky I am to have lunch in my workplace where it's cool, where seats are readily available and where not much waiting time is required. :P

Having said that, the wanton noodles we bought were definitely worth the wait. The wantons were crispy, the noodles were springy. At least the meal managed to appease a sauna-ed, tired and hungry foodie. :P

And just look at the generous serving! More than 10 wantons (some in the soup) altogether?

According to JN, the noodles we had were much better than before. I guess the inconsistency in the quality and the long wait could be attributed to the fact that it's a one-woman show. Only one auntie at the stall to manage the huge crowd. >_<

Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits

Hubby brought me to T3 today. Spacious. I like the smart design of having aluminium louvres to reflect sunlight into the building... That's about it. :P

I can hardly find clusters of people around, like I always would in the other two terminals... until I went to the Basement 2... coz that's where all the food are... :)~~~

I am not a big fan of Popeye's cartoon, but I thought I should give this a try. It is not everyday that I visit Changi Airport, ya know? ;P



Chicken Combo (9/10)



Yvonne, I seriously think you should go down and have another go! The chicken is so tender, juicy and yummy! :) I certainly prefer that to KFC's! :P

The biscuit was good at first sight bite, but too bland for my taste buds after subsequent bites. It tasted so much better after spreading the jam. A typical example of something that cannot be eaten on its own. :P Why am I thinking of my sausage biscuit again? >_<

Fries (9/10)
Whipped potato (10/10)



The fries were crispy and moderately spiced. It resembled Mac's curly fries except that it wasn't curled. Nice!

The whipped potato were exceptional, I tell ya! It's a must try! KFC's whipped potato all of a sudden seemed so starchy and inferior. :P

Chicken Fillet (7/10)



There must be a reason why nine out of ten people in the restuarant ordered the chicken combo. I happened to be the 10th! It's really a mistake on my part. Why didn't I open my eyes big big to observe what others had before ordering? Oh ok. Actually it wasn't that bad... as long as I don't compare. :P

I knew I was going to lay my hands teeth on a cedele cake anytime. I have passed by it too many times to ignore the beckoning from the cakeys.

Chocolate Truffle Cake (8/10)

This is a popular recommendation made by most floggers. And because chocolate's my favourite too, I didn't take long to choose.



I say this is nice! I find 'mousse-like mixture' (as described by Ice) too overwhelming though. In terms of quantity. I prefer a thicker biscuit crumble. >_<

... for they are nothing more than sausage and egg sandwiched between two slightly sweetened hotcakes. My hub love it. =/

If there's any Mac breakfast that I have enjoyed most in my life, it has to be the sausage biscuit! Alas, they stopped selling this about 2 decades ago.

The last time I had that was in the US few years ago. I would kiss anyone who can prepare an authentic, hot sausage biscuit for me now. o_O

Shih Lin Taiwan Street Snacks

One of my friends once told me, "Our local Shih Lin chicken cutlet is nothing compared to the authentic Taiwan Shih Lin night market's chicken cutlet."

I have tried the Taiwan's version. Yes, the one with the super long queue.

I too, queued (in the drizzle) for a good 20-25 minutes just to buy this 'must try'. :P Frankly speaking, I felt that it was over-rated by many.

My friend's comments kept me well and away from the local Shih Lin's stall for quite a while. I mean if I consider the authentic one so-so only, how much better can the local one be?

My curiosity gave way.

It was fried to a golden crisp and was still piping hot (I can still see the steam after minutes!) when it was served. *crunch crunch* The spice that was added after frying also gave an extra punch to the end product!

"Shall we take a quick bite at Quick Bite?" I sms-ed JN.

I suggested that not because of any good reviews or whatsoever, but because the name of the snack stall matches with what we were going to have before rushing for our 730pm show. Sounds silly right? :P

Anyway it turned out that the food was not bad!

The rice tasted great with the sauce. Its level of sweetness was just right. The chicken meat was tender and savoury. It would be at least a 9 if not for quite a few charred areas. No good for health. *wags forefinger*

JN wasn't too impressed with what she has ordered though.

My firsts.

That was the first time I have my meal at Quick Bite, the first time I have been to The Cathay (yes, I am that sua ku) and the first time I watched a movie with JN!

But this is certainly not the first time I am watching a dance movie. Those who catches dance movies regularly will more or less know the copy-and-paste plot. It usually involves delinquency, a guy and a girl, one of which is forced to do a dance he/she doesn't like and ends up putting a great show with the support of his/her partner. Those who were initially against them will always smile in approval after watching their performance. :P

This is with the case of "Step Up 2" that I have watched today.



Those who are looking for some interesting or new plots can forget about watching the show.

Having said that, I still find that movie rather enjoyable. Not in terms of plot, of course. But rather, on the moves (as always).

I particularly like the part whereby the actor do the pull-and-let-go action with the actress (as seen on the bottom of the poster above). Very natural. I love the soundtrack, "Low" by Flo Rida too. Makes me wanna grooove to the music. And yes, Andie's so chio and sexaaay, especially when she's drenched! *drools* :P~~~

I hardly have friends who likes watching hip hop dances too. In fact, JN's the only one I guess. So if you are reading this, JN, thanks for jio-ing and for being such a great company! :)

Lotus Thai Viet

Whenever I go to a food court, I will usually walk one big round before deciding what to have. Sometimes, I ended up ordering food from the first stall I passed by. :P

This time, I zoomed straight into Lotus Thai Viet. I knew there are still many dishes waiting for me to try.

Minced Chicken Omelette with rice (9/10)



I wanted to order the set, which consisted of the main (above), a bowl of tom yam soup and fried spring roll. Auntie later apologised and said that they ran out of spring roll. I had no choice but to take the ala carte rice with omelette.

As I stood there waiting for the dish to be served, I started to have doubts. "Geez... is this appetizing enough to finish? It's just rice and omelette. Should I change my order? But there must be a reason why two others have chosen to have that too, huh?"

The omelette, as unpromising as it looked, turned out to be great! It had a light crisp on certain areas and a consistent savoury flavour throughout.

Just the omelette to go with the rice and I am contented.

I can hardly find any minced bits of the chicken though. :P

I was attracted to the name of this restaurant, but was undecided whether to take the risk of dining in an unfamiliar place...



Ok, I admit that I made up my mind after seeing these. :P



Sambal Fried Rice (10/10)



This is the plate of delicious fried rice that my mother has ordered. It is of the same rating as that in Lemongrass, but tasty in its very own way. The sambal was evenly coated on each grain of rice. The whole plate of rice was hot (in terms of heat and spiciness) and I could only think of a word to describe it. Shiok!!

When she saw that I enjoyed the fried rice so much, my ever-so-selfless mother kept asking me to take a few more spoonfuls. Luckily, I managed to hold myself back from doing so, else she would have ended up taking my noodles for dinner instead. LOL.

QQ Noodles with Char Siew (7/10)



Actually it's not that bad too. The char siew and meatballs were ok. The soup was exceptionally tasty. My mother was helping herself to the soup too. hehz... the only imperfection comes from the noodles. Too chewy and 'Q' for me.

Ngor Hiong (6/10)



Even my chin-chye mother also 'hiam' that the ngor hiong are not crispy enough. A bit oily too.
