Sticky Rice

We were starving and needed to get food fast. At a late hour of 840pm, there are still queues forming at the entrance of restaurants. So we decided to settle for Sticky Rice, with only two customers in front of us. We got seated in less than a minute because we don't mind taking the seat at the entrance.

Type
Thai

Taste

Pandan Chicken (7/10)
The Pandan chicken really fragrant and tastes especially good when dipped into the Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce.

Fried Rice with chicken (9/10)

The Fried Rice was yummy! And I am pretty sure it wasn't because of the hunger. :P The rice is moist so I believe some people might not like it.

Stick Rice Mango (3/10)
The Sticky Rice Mango is a famous Thai dessert, but I do not fancy it at all. Sorry, but I even had that 'yikey' look when I took my first bite. My hub said it's supposed to be like this, even though he felt he has eaten better versions of this in Thailand. When asked for a rating for this dessert, he gave only a 5.

Ambience
Crowded and a bit weird for our table coz it's almost at the passage way

Service
üüüüü

Pretty good. The waiter even warned us the dish we initially wanted to order is very salty and not everyone can take it.

He actually squat down to take our orders. With him at almost the same level as us, it not only helps us not to physically strain our neck and his back during communication, it also brings about a friendly feel.

Refills water promptly when asked. He gave me warm water instead of the cold water I wanted, but that's ok. Just something minor.Price
$$$$$
Very good value for money. For two tasty fried rice, 1 pandan chicken and 1 dessert, it only costs us about $30?

KFC Meltz

This is what I have for lunch. I first had Meltz when I was in Genting last October. I wonder why it took them so long to introduce this product in Singapore. :P

The Meltz Meal

Type
Fast food

Taste
Ratings : 7/10
It looks quite a balanced meal for it includes coleslaw as well. The meltz itself is quite tasty. I changed my whipped potato to fries (for very obvious reasons) and the drinks to hot tea. Notice how small that cup of tea is? I have no idea why they downgraded to this size. It's a satisfying meal on the whole.

Ambience
Casual

Service
üüüüü
I went to the Boon Lay Branch. I had to wait for a very long time because the person in front of us took a very long time while the other queue is moving really fast. They should have combined the two queues to one so that it's fair to everybody, no?

Price

$$$$$
Quite reasonable for a meal with two side dishes.

Akashi Japanese Restaurant

My hub and I were at M1 Paragon to change my SIM Card to a 3G one because the existing 2G one is giving me lots of problem in my new phone. We took a walk in the shopping centre to find a place to have our dinner. I realised that there are actually many restaurants in the basement area, most of which were full at that time.

We settled for Akashi, a Japanese restaurant which has earned good comments on the web. It turned out that my hub (who has very high standard for food), actually like the place, the service and the food very much.

Maybe I am just not an avid fan of Japanese food like my hub, so 7 is all I could give for the food I took. However, the salmon sushi does look very very fresh to me, even when I don't take raw food. I wouldn't be surprised if my hub were to give a 9 for the freshness and tastiness.

Ambience

Dim lightings. Moderately quiet environment.

Service

They gave our hot towels just like air stewardesses. We were pleasantly surprised by this kind gesture. I read on the web that if you sit at the counter, the chef will actually chat with you to find out your likes and dislikes so that he can make recommendations! Very personalised service eh?

Price

For that kinda of service and fresh food, it has got to be on the high side, no? My hub kept saying that the price is 'ok' but I guess he means value for money because the dishes are indeed ex! :P

Koo Kee Dumpling & Ramen House

We were on our way to Bugis to buy my Dopod D810. To avoid a detour, we asked the taxi driver to stop us near the junction. He stopped right in front of Koo Kee.

We wanted something light, so we thought that some Yong Tau Foo at Koo Kee would be nice. However, it turned out that this Koo Kee doesn't sell the Yong Tau Foo that we were expecting, but rather, chinese food, with dumplings as their signature dish.

We ordered the following.

Type
Chinese

Taste
7/10 for mushroom dish
7/10 for Spring Onion Chicken
5/10 for dumplings (maybe I just don't like dumplings)

Ambience
Cheena, with big chinese 'dian gu' on the wall

Service
üüüüü
Took quite a while to serve the dishes

Waraku Japanese Restaurant

My husband is a huge fan of Japanese food. This is especially so after my Brother introduced the raw salmon sushi to him in a buffet. He was addicted to that ever since.

Being assigned as the 'planner' for his birthday, I know Japanese food has to be on at least one of the meals for the day. I searched through the Japanese restaurants online. This is the only restaurant that has good reviews and is affordable (I came across one that charges $60 for a bowl of rice or something. Haiyo!)

I ordered Chicken Curry Rice. It came in two different sizes, so I took the 'regular', which turned out that it was the bigger size of the two! It's so big, I can even put my whole face into the bowl! -_-''

In any case, it was really tasty. The curry was mild and is suitable for non-chilli
takers like me.

My hub ordered some Pork Rice and sushi.

We saw on the menu that there will be a complimentary fruit platter worth $15! (what expensive fruits!) for those whose birthday falls on that day of patronage. Naturally, we asked for it after the meal. The presentation was very elaborate but the fruits were not very sweet. Still, we really felt that we have had a good deal to have something worth $15 for free. LOL!

Ambience

Nice Japanese Setting

Pretty ok. They shifted us to a bigger and more comfortable table as there were not much people around.

My Secret Garden

I was cracking my brain to find a place to celebrate my hub's birthday.

The name of this restaurant caught my attention and I was enticed to solve the 'mystery' of this 'Secret' Garden by finding out more. I learnt from the website (
http://www.mysg.com.sg/) that it's a very nice and cosy place where many functions and surprises were arranged. What really prompted me to pick up the phone to reserve a table was the many appetite-whetting photos of the food that was placed on its website. You really gotta visit it to know what I mean.

It was stated on the website that they will plan birthday/proposal surprises and what nots, so I thought of giving it a try. A rather friendly lady picked up the call to take my reservation. She did not give other interesting ideas on how I could surprise my hub, other than presenting him with a hot fudge brownie with a candle on top after the main course. This, I thought, is rather common and not as innovative as what the website claimed. Nevertheless, it's still better than nothing so I decided to go for it and asked the lady to go ahead with the serving right after the main course.

I have read about how secluded this place is (It's a SECRET garden, mind you!) so I decided to take a cab instead. Even then, the taxi driver do not know where to drop us. We had to call up the restaurant to ask for directions. Fortunately, the person who picked up the call gave very clear instructions and we managed to find the place in no time. When we reached there, he was still giving directions to other customers who lost their way too! LOL!

Although I usually prefer tomato sauce ones, the photos on the website made me wanna order creamy pasta instead. Just as we were about to order, a waitress walked passed with a Roast Chicken main course. I tell ya, it smells and looks so good that I changed my mind immediately. :P

The main course were not bad (7/10), but it certainly smells and looks better than it tastes. Perhaps that explains why I plunged into the meal without taking a photo of it. :P

What really made this trip worthwhile is this heart-shaped chocolate brownie with ice cream, which I am going to give a 10/10 for!

I have eaten brownies and ice cream quite a number of times before, but it was never this heavenly! I am so glad that I was still able to hold myself back for a few seconds to take a photo of that before I launched the attack. Tee-hee!

Ambience
It really depends on where you choose to be seated at. In the outdoor area, it's relaxed, cozy and very suitable for gatherings of three or more.
We were seated indoors, where it is more romantic and quiet with soft jazz music in the background. No bermudas and slippers are allowed in this area.

Service
üüüüü
From the phone reservation to the directions given to go to the place, to the taking of orders and the serving of the food, we were served by patient and friendly staff. I would have given 5 full smiley faces if not for a slight grouse I have. The staff actually came up to me and ask if I can serve that brownie. I thought that was supposed to be a surprise? >_<'' What's more, it was communicated over the phone that the dessert be served right after the main course. Apart from that, the service was really good.

Price
$$$$$
I don't know if this is considered fine dining, but in my definition, it certainly is! We spent slightly more than a hundred for a lobster bisque, 2 main courses, 1 dessert and 2 drinks. So I am giving 'full marks' for the price. :P

No doubt the name of this blog is goodfood-goodmood, there will always be a certain degree of how good we think the food is. For every entry that I post, it will be accompanied by a rating on the quality of the food, type of food, the ambience, the service and the price. Of course, this can only be used as a reference as the preferences varies among different people.

The birth of GoodFood-GoodMood

I woke up one day with the urge to use this name for one of my blogs. It kinda rhymes and it really describes me of having a good mood when I have good food! :D

So I thought, since my hub and I have been going to restaurants for our meals recently, why not put all the yummy food on record and share it with other food lovers out there?

'goodfoodgoodmood' seems to be rather unique to me but another like-minded person managed to get that url first for his/her blog. Then I thought I would settle for goodfood-goodmood. I have grown to like this url because it seems to have this invisible pause between the two phrase, which is supposedly how i want it to be read. :)

I hope you ready for a goodfood-goodmood session, because I am! :D~~~
